Worldbound follows 9-year-old Sonic as he struggles to cope with confusion and anger over his father's recent disappearance. He manages to verbalize his feelings with an old family friend over an old biplane he and his father were going to rebuild.

As Sonic runs along the beaches of Christmas Island, his friends tell him to wait up, and Lewis starts making pig puns. But then Aleena calls Sonic in for dinner, telling him he is late.
When he gets home, he meets Jonas Eisvogel, an old friend of his father, who tells him he arrived by his own plane. Sonic goes quiet at the mention of his dad and heads to his room.
Aleena and Jonas have a talk about Sonic, and Aleena asks Jonas to talk to him. He goes up to Sonic and starts telling the story of how Aleena and Yeager met.
Yeager used to be flight instructor at Mobotropolis Academy, always loving the sky, until he started his charter business, and one day Aleena and her brother Chuck enlisted him to take them to the Zone Frontier. Yeager fell in love immediately, eventually hooking up after two years.
Sonic decides to show Jonas something. In the hangar, Sonic reveals the S-20 Tornado, one of only three of its kind. Yeager had disappeared only a week before he and Sonic were planning to restore it fully. Sonic reveals he believes his dad is still out there somewhere, and he wants to adventure and find him. Aleena is happy to see him excited and they all head back inside for dinner.
